President Droupadi Murmu on Kolkata rape-murder:’Enough is enough, I am disappointed and scared
President Draupadi Murmu’s statement has come on the rape case of a 31-year-old doctor at RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata. In a strong condemnation of the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, President Droupadi Murmu expressed her dismay and horror over the incident. President Murmu said that’s enough now. She is disappointed and frightened by this entire incident., “Enough is enough,” highlighting how urgently society needs to change in order to stop such horrible crimes against women.
In her first public statement over the rape and murder case in Kolkata, President Droupadi Murmu demanded justice to be done quickly and reaffirmed her support for the ongoing protests. She highlighted the significance of transforming societal perceptions of women and ensuring their security and respect in every aspect of life.
President Droupadi Murmu stated in the interview that while residents, physicians, and students in Kolkata protested against the recent crime, criminals were free to walk around in other areas. “No civilized society can allow daughters and sisters to be subjected to such crimes,” the speaker stressed.
President Murmu criticized society for its collective forgetfulness of the numerous rape incidents that took place, in the twelve years since the historic Nirbhaya case. “This ‘collective amnesia’ is obnoxious,” she remarked, highlighting the necessity of long-term shifts in the understanding and response to crimes against women.
The President made the observation that a “deplorable mindset” frequently considers women to be inferior human beings who are less strong, clever, and capable. She urged society to ask hard questions about how it treats women and to participate in “honest, unbiased self-introspection”.
What is Kolkata Rape and Murder Case?
The body of a 31-year-old trainee female doctor was found on August 9 in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical Hospital, Kolkata.
For those who don’t know, on August 9, a 31-year-old resident physician at RG Kar hospital was sexually assaulted and killed.
There were no clothes on her body. was gushing blood.
The body showed marks of injuries. After this incident, resentment increased among the resident doctors and they went on strike. The police have arrested the accused Sanjay Roy in the case. When the matter gained momentum, the High Court handed over the investigation to the CBI.
Later, the Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the case and ordered the CBI to file the progress report of the investigation so far. After this the CBI filed a status report in the court. Accused Sanjay Roy of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital had gone inside RG Hospital a total of four times on the night of 8th and 9th on different pretexts. Out of these, three times he had wandered inside the hospital and came out.
But the allegation is that when he came out of the hospital for the fourth and last time, he had raped and murdered the trainee doctor. Investigation revealed that Sanjay Roy had gone to a red light area near the hospital on the night of the incident and while returning there, he molested a girl on the way. People all around the state were outraged by the incident and protested, calling for immediate action and the death penalty for the perpetrator.
